It begins at the color of a match struck in a dark room, then widens into amber, then into the pale gold of a kitchen window at seven. By the time sound is needed, you are usually already awake, blinking at a room that seems to have arrived on its own. Aubade ships in March in brass, matte white, and deep green. It also makes a decent reading light.
